The mysterious Amber Room – strenght of amber and gold. Something special, something glorious.

It’s the most famous location in history, not only, because it was made of gold and amber, but also because of its wanishing in the stormy years of World War II. There are many speculations of possible location of hiding the Amber Room (a few of them are in Poland – Owl Mountains, Nysa, Cracow). The Amber Room was made for Tsar Peter the Great in XVIII century (it was a present from Prussian king Frederick William I. The large decorative panels were sent to Russia in eighteen chests.

The Amber Room was located in the Catherine castle of Tsarskoye Selo (summer residence of Russian tsars near Saint Petersburg). The amber cabinet was covered by more than 55 square meters and contained over 6 tones of amber. It is a priceless piece of craft, which include gilding carvings, Danish amber panels, beautiful gemstones, mirrors and scultures. This place was used to house a collection of amber-work and Chinese porcelain. There were lots of valuable furniture to kept and presented this amazing collection. The Amber Room was stolen during World War IIby Army Group North of Nazi Germany and took to Konigsberg fortress (crushed during an Allied bombarding) and then it vanished. There are many guesses what the fate of the Amber Room was.

One of them says that it was crushed by Allied bombs, second claimed that it was replaced from the palace and maybe hidden somewhere in the city, third – that it was put onto a ship, but gone under during the transport. It has also been said that the cabinet got misplaced and just forgotten and maybe it will be discover after many years in some aged warehouse between some boxes chests, furniture and other furniture or other missing treasures. A lots of people are still looking for this remarkable part of art, many of them spent all theirs life on this action, a few of them even died. It is believed that the Amber Room is coursed and those who are nearly deciphering its mystery died or are calamity. After many years the Amber Room was reconstructed by Russian artists and reopened in 2003 (it was associated with 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg).

It’s worth to go to the town, go to Catherine castle and contemplate all of its beautiful halls such as Green Dining Room, Great Hall and other interiors and admire all of theirs pictures, art, furniture. The mystery of the Amber Room will stay a charming story about vehemence, fortune, cupidity and prettiness. Maybe after some time immeasurable sands of history will show a piece of right about it.
